NHS Huddersfield provides a glimpse into the future. Batchelor Electrical Ltd have recently completed the installation of a massive solar roof installation project at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary as part of the hospital's corporate social responsibility policy. The project comprises of 36 photovoltaic (PV) panels, each over 6m long x 1m wide, incorporated into the roofing, which was completed in partnership with Total Roofing Services. This environmentally conscious hospital is one of the first in the country to consider using the sun's energy to reduce the building carbon dioxide emissions by Mr Bannister, Director of Estates for Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust said: "Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust are delighted with the outcome of the scheme. Working with specialist companies such as Batchelor Electrical Ltd has produced real benefits." The fully automated system allows surplus electricity produced from the installation to be sold back to the electricity company automatically by the unit itself. Likewise, if demand is higher than the units can produce additional top-up electricity is automatically bought from the grid. Batchelor Electrical Ltd are a recognised installer of the alwitra solar roofing membrane, more information can be found at the solar page on our site, alternatively log onto www.alwitra.co.uk for detailed technical specifications. With current grants available of up to 50% of the installation from the DTI's Energy Trust, many companies are looking into the future and realising that their energy does not need to cost the earth.
